Jonathan Valencia
From Holoprosencephaly
Jonathan is my 3rd and last son. He has 2 older brothers named Jordan and Jason. We found out about Jonathan's condition when I went in for a routine ultra sound at around my 5th month. I knew something was wrong when they were taking to long. Needless to say, 99 is still a little blurry for me, it is getting better to talk about it without crying. Any ways we were told that Jonathan has Holoprosencephaly and that there was a 50/50 chance that he would be born. Had so many test and saw so many doctors that is wasn't even funny. Alot of these doctor had never seen a case like this . I felt like and experiment. We were given the chance to abort the pregnacy but I could not do it. I felt him moving in me and could not lose another child (miscarried my 1st in 93). We continued with the pregnacy as normal as possible except I was now concidered high risk. Also none of these doctors could tell me what his life expectancy would be like, they just kept telling us the worst things about how Jonathan could be born.
Well Jonathan has proven them wrong, He was born on May 19th, 1999. I had a team of doctor for me and a team for Jonathan. Only one doctor told me that no matter what I would hold me son and guess what I did. Jonathan came out looking like a perfect little angel. He scored high on the apgar test,had all 10 toes and fingers. The only thing noticible was the his head was smaller than normal (Microcephaly).
Jonathan is now a happy little boy who takes the bus to school every day (2nd grade) . He may not do all the thing that we take advantage of (like walk,talk,sit or stand) but who cares. I have him and he is loved by so many. He has a laugh and a smile that you can't resist. He loves music and playing wiith his brothers. You should hear him laugh when the boys will dog pile thier dad, I put Jonathan right on top of them. He wants to be right in there too.
